Create a Bootable USB

From a working computer, use a Bootable USB Drive Creation Tool of your choice to create a bootable AvalancheOS USB drive from the ISO image. Once the USB drive is ready, boot your computer from it to start AvalancheOS Portable.

When AvalancheOS starts, you will be prompted to enter the default password, aos (all lowercase). You will then be required to create your own password before continuing into the system.

Testing and Intended Use

AvalancheOS has been tested in a physical USB boot environment only. It is designed and tested as a stateless USB operating system. Persistence is not supported. Running AvalancheOS in a virtual environment or installing it to a computer is also not supported and may result in unexpected behavior or other unintended results.

About Updates

AvalancheOS Portable is stateless, which means you can make changes and install updates during a session. However, if your AvalancheOS release is older, it may take some time to bring the system up to date. Remember that any changes or updates made during a session do not persist after shutdown. Each new release includes the latest available security updates and patches from the Ubuntu software repositories at the time it was built.

USB Drive Recommendations

AvalancheOS Portable runs directly from the USB drive, so USB drive performance can affect system responsiveness. For the best experience, we recommend a high-quality USB 3.0 or newer drive with good sustained read and write speeds.

  • USB 3.0 or newer
  • Sustained read speeds of 300 MB/s or higher
  • Sustained write speeds of 50 MB/s or higher
  • 40 GB or larger capacity

USB 2.0 drives may work, but can result in slower boot times, application loading, and overall system responsiveness.
